“The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.”
Isaiah 57:15 NLT
It is a marvelous wonder that the God of the universe – who spoke the heavens and earth into existence, breathed His very breath into you and me – dwells in heaven and at the same time lives in every human heart who has surrendered their life to Jesus Christ…
…even when we wander from His fold.
To begin this beautiful relationship with God, we must come to the end of ourselves. We must repent of being proud and embrace humility (Daniel 4:37).
Pride is our greatest sin – consequently all sin can be summed up in one word: Pride (Proverbs 16:5).
Humility starts where you and I end. The end of self is the beginning of a new life exalting Jesus (John 3:30).
Humility replaces pride.
Our Savior was characterized by humility beyond what we could ever uphold yet there is no need for repentance on Jesus’s part since He never sinned (Philippians 2:5-11, 2 Corinthians 5:21). However, for us Little Christ’s, we do struggle with sin as Romans 7 reminds us, but our life should be marked with growing humility and repentance.
In our Christian walk, there is no humility without repentance and no repentance without humility. Repentance and humility go hand-in-hand and therefore cannot be separated.
Regrettably, our hearts are “prone to wander,” but God’s love restores our brokenness as we choose to walk in humility. May we daily practice humility and repentance – staying within His fold and far away from pride.
