Follow Jesus!

Do you realize that there is a party going on in heaven for you once you surrendered your life to Jesus?!  Jesus said, “I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:10)

Mark this day down!  This is the most important day of your life!  You are reborn, a new creation, God’s child, a Christian!

Warning

Now that you’re a Christian, there continues to be an enemy of your soul, Satan, who will do all he can to “steal, kill, and destroy” and “devour” you (John 10:10, 1 Peter 5:8-9).  He no longer has dominion over your soul, because your soul now belongs to God, but he will do all he can to get you not to follow Jesus.  Satan was created by God as a beautiful angel (Ezekiel 28:13-19), but Satan chose to rebel against God and some angels followed Satan in rebellion against God (Revelation 12:4-9).

Because of Satan’s rebellion, hell was created for him and his demons (Matthew 25:41).  Satan is the enemy of God and God’s people.  Satan will try to plant seeds of doubt in your mind and heart about God (Genesis 3:1).  Don’t fall for his evil schemes (Ephesians 6:11)!  He is the Father of Lies (John 8:44)!   You now have the power of the Holy Spirit to resist Satan so that he will flee from you (James 4:7).  Satan and his demons will also disguise themselves as false Christians (2 Corinthians 11:14-15), so be careful.

How do I follow Jesus?…

Pray

Prayer is simply talking to God. Just like you talk to your friends or family members, your relationship is now restored to God and you can freely talk to Him! He loves to hear from you! In fact He is waiting to hear from you all the time (Psalm 27:8)!  You can pray anywhere at any time!  Since you have the Holy Spirit in you, your body is the temple of the Lord (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) and although God continues to always be everywhere at all times, God is also within you!  You are never alone!

Read, study, and obey the Bible

The Bible is God’s literal Word, without error, written to us.  God speaks to us through the Bible.  The Bible consists of 66 books, separated in two parts – the Old and New Testaments. The Bible was written by 40 different Holy Spirit inspired authors over a period of 1,500 years on three different continents. Each book contains the theme of repentance and faith in God.  The Bible is full of fulfilled prophesies, eyewitness accounts, and there are ample discoveries of archaeological evidence proving it’s historical accuracy.  Spend time getting to know God through reading the Bible.  Take your time and study as you read – The Word is alive! (Hebrews 4:12)  We know that we have been born again if we love God, and obeying God shows we love Him. (1 John 5:2, John 14:15).  Obey what the Bible commands – it is God commanding you.

Fellowship

Get plugged into a Biblical church! The Bible says to “not neglect meeting together” (Hebrews 10:24-25).  In other words, meet with other Christians!   God has restored us to be in relationship not only with Himself, but with others! You are now a part of the Body of Christ – the family of God!

Share the Gospel

Now that you are an ambassador for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20), you are called by God to tell others of this great salvation that you have received and how they also can get saved (Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 16:15-16)!  How can you keep this Good News to yourself?  Who will be the first person you share it with…a family member, a friend, a co-worker, a neighbor, or maybe a complete stranger?  Remember that you have the Holy Spirit inside of you to help you share the gospel.  You are NEVER alone!  God indwells you!  Since you learned of the gospel by hearing the Word of God, it is your turn to continue getting the message of salvation out (Romans 10:13-17)!
