Walking or Falling

I understand that as a disciple of Christ I am either walking in my calling or falling in my calling. God calls me positionally holy. When God looks at me – because I am “in Christ” – He sees me like Jesus – holy and righteous.  This blows my mind each time I think on this truth because I know how much I fall short of God’s glory each day (Rom 3:23).

I recently came across Bill Henard’s blog* regarding our position before God and our practice of faith. He called it – practical holiness.  Because of what Christ has done for me, I must choose to “live and act like” my holy and righteous position that God has already imputed to me once I was saved. I have the power of the Holy Spirit to walk in my calling of holiness (John 14:17). This holiness is NOT of me (Rom 7:18). Let me make this crystal clear – I am saved because of my position, not of my practice. I am called holy, but practically at times, I fall. My practice shows fruit of my position. Because of what Christ has done on the cross for me, I am compelled to live my life in a way that God already sees me – holy and righteous.

May we moment-by-moment step into our calling, without falling – but when we do fall, may we be quick to confess our sin and trust Our precious Advocate (1 John 2:1). Friends, positionally you are holy and righteous – now practically speaking, walk in that calling.
