Glow-Up

“Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy;
    no shadow of shame will darken their faces.”
Psalm 34:5 NLT

Merriam-Webster defines “glow-up” as “an informal term for a (perceived) dramatic positive change in someone or something’s physical appearance.”

As I age, “glow-up” is more of a “glow-down”.  But I take comfort in the Word of God as confirmed in Proverbs 31:30 that beauty is fleeting

The kind of glow-up we must seek most is an inner beauty – a God-glow.  It comes from spending time with The Almighty praying to Him, reading His Word – then doing what He says.

In Exodus 34:30, we learn the result of what happens when Moses spends time with God –  his face literally glows!  People notice Moses’s shining face and are even afraid to come near him.

How about you? Do you have a glow about you that reflects you have spent time with Jesus?  Do you shine more of a gentle and quiet spirit rather than an outward beauty that is fading (1 Peter 3:3-4)? What responses do you get from others because the Holy Spirit is glowing through you?

We could do things that give us temporal physical “glow-ups” only leading to ever pursuing something that is impermanent.  Or we can pursue the imperishable by choosing to spend more time with God allowing the Holy Spirit to change our inner beauty to look more like Christ  (1 Peter 1:4).

Jesus will shine His light out of us for the world to see if only we would learn from Him and do what He commands (2 Corinthians 3:18, Philippians 2:15).  May we experience a “glow-up” each time we sit at the feet of Jesus.
