Let There Be

God’s announcement of creation is recorded in Genesis Chapter 1 and 2.  God says, “let there be…light, separation between the sky and waters, land, vegetation, sun, moon, stars, fish, birds, land animals, and humans.”  Let there be – God said – and it came to be.  God is Creator and declares what will come to pass.

These “let there be’s” are given a specific proper role as defined by The Designer.  When these creations are functioning outside of their created let there be order, there is disorder.  Hence, we read about the fall of humanity and the consequences to their sin in Genesis Chapter 3.

We are all like Adam and Eve (Romans 3:23). Throughout our days we either respond to God’s let there be in obedience or disobedience.  We always have a choice.

At the same time that God gives a command, there is an enemy prowling around like a lion seeking to destroy (1 Peter 5:8).  If we stay within the boundaries God has defined, we will be blessed. If we don’t, chaos breaks out as we listen to a false master and thus, reap consequences for our decisions (Genesis 3:16-19).

Satan is still up to the same tricks he’s been doing since the Garden…Did God really say?  His desire is to plant seeds of doubt in our soul regarding God’s character.

What ought we to do when a seed of doubt presents itself to our heart/mind? – FLEE immediately and trust God (James 4:7, Proverbs 3:5-6)!

But what do we tend to do? – Rely on our own understanding.

We swallow the seed of doubt and believe a lie. You surly won’t die, but you will be like God becomes louder than the Voice of Truth.

The problem doesn’t just stop there.

We are inclined to bring others into our confusion – I only ate from the tree because the women you created for me gave it to me or the serpent deceived me – So we try to justify our sin.

Then to top it off, we try to cover up and/or run away as the shame and guilt presses upon our soul (Genesis 3:7).  But thankfully this is God’s grace as the Holy Spirit convicts us (John 16:8 and Romans 6:14).

So if we tune our hearts to Our True Master, His voice is kind, gentle, and lowly as He calls to us…

  • Where are you? (Genesis 3:9)
  • Remember I created you. (Genesis 1:27)
  • Do not be afraid, I am with you. (Genesis 2:21-22)
  • Admit what you did. (Genesis 3:11)
  • Don’t blame shift. (Genesis 3:12-13)
  • It wasn’t the devil who made you do it nor any person or anything outside of you – it was your own desires within (James 1:14-15).
  • I made a way for you – just as your “first” parents disobeyed me in the Garden – I provided a temporary solution for them – I killed an innocent animal to cover up their sin because without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin (Genesis 3:21, Hebrews 9:22). But remember I have made a permanent it is finished solution for you doubting me, believing lies, blame shifting, guilt, shame, fear – I sent my dearly beloved Son, Jesus Christ, on your behalf. He was sacrificed in your place. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

Friends, think of the times when you are tempted to swallow the Did God really say seed or You surly won’t die, but you will be like God lieWe all do this (1 John 1:10). But we have a way out each time we are tempted (1 Corinthians 10:13).  When you cross over from temptation to sin, I urge you to respond in obedience to God’s loving call by:

  • Acknowledging to God where you are at in your thoughts/actions (He already knows – Psalm 139:4)
  • Reminding yourself that God created you
  • Reminding yourself to not be afraid because God is with you
  • Take responsibility for your part – confess your sin and repent (1 John 1:9)
  • Resisting blame shifting
  • Reminding yourself of the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:2-4)

Hebrews 3:15 commands that “…TODAY, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” It is God’s kindness that leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4).

By choosing to let there be as God declares, you are acknowledging His ways to come to pass and functioning in the suitable role He created for you.  Disorder will be ordered once again as first announced by your Creator and Savior.
