Every time I walked into the room with Teresa, I had a smile on my face and hope in my heart. I knew she had been praying for me, that God would give her exactly what she would share with me. I had hope because He was going to meet me and because Theresa cared about me. I felt important.
During our sessions, Teresa listened attentively; her posture leaned in, eyes full of compassion, and she even took notes. An occasional clarifying question would reassure me further. I felt valuable. Then, she presented me with gifts. These gifts were not the monetary kind but were worth more than gold. They were verses, diagrams, illustrations, and carefully, prayerfully researched treasures that brought the word of God to life. I had the answers to life’s questions. Moreover, I had His answers to my questions, some I didn’t know I had.
God was moving. I felt seen. Next, I had homework! Nourishing, personally tailored exercises, memory verses, and readings were designed for my times with Him. I grew and thrived as I discovered blessing upon blessing. I felt treasured. Our meeting would transition into its final phase. I didn’t want to leave every time, but Teresa had one more selfless act of service to give me; she prayed blessings over me.
His words and heart for me flowed through her. A little friendly chitchat, the occasional tears of joy, and often sweet humor were our parting tradition. I didn’t walk away from her office; I floated because I was full of peace, hope, and promise. Now, equipped to live more of the life He died to give me. I am thankful. My time with Teresa and God was a gift.
It came because He loves me, and Teresa wanted to serve me. I feel loved.
